How to build a consumer complaint evidence file
A strong complaint file is easy for someone else to review. If a reviewer can understand what happened in under five minutes, your documentation is probably in good shape.
Use a simple folder structure
- 01-chronology
- 02-contract-and-terms
- 03-payments-and-invoices
- 04-correspondence
- 05-remedy-request
Core checklist
- Start with a one-page chronology.
- Include receipts, terms, and key correspondence.
- Label each file with date and source.
- State the remedy sought in one sentence.
Prefer filenames such as 2026-05-14-email-refund-request.pdf over generic names like screenshot-final2.png. Clear naming reduces dispute about sequence and context.
